Ludhiana: Pandemonium reigns as the route to Bharat Nagar Chowk is momentarily closed

A severe traffic bottleneck on the Nirankari Satsang Bhawan Road, which links Mall Road and Ferozepur Road, left commuters agitated.

The route from Bharat Nagar Chowk to the mini-secretariat in Ludhiana was temporarily stopped to traffic on Wednesday due to the installation of girders at the elevated road construction site. This resulted in confusion and mayhem throughout the entire stretch.

A severe traffic bottleneck on the Nirankari Satsang Bhawan Road, which links Mall Road and Ferozepur Road, left commuters agitated.

Locals have expressed disapproval of the authorities’ plan to restrict one of the city’s major crossroads for traffic during festival days, arguing that the junction should have been closed after Diwali next month.

The traffic police decided to permit two-way vehicle movement on the normally designated one-way stretch between Ferozepur Road to Mall Road in order to facilitate traffic flow. But instead of easing traffic, this modification made it move more slowly as cars hurried to get through the backed-up lane.

It is anticipated that this disruption would last for around a week, as the installation of girders is an essential stage in the elevated road’s reconstruction.

According to Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP, Traffic), Charanjiv Lamba, the site requires the installation of a total of eighteen girders. This process should take around a week to finish, according to estimates.

The ACP said that traffic on the Nirankari Satsang Bhawan Road will be let to flow in both directions for one week as part of their ongoing attempts to control the situation. Furthermore, the contractor is required to provide a 20-foot gap along the Bharat Nagar Chowk Road wall of the BSNL Exchange building.

Casting work will start after the girders are installed, and it will likely take three more weeks to finish. Traffic coming from the Bharat Nagar Chowk side towards the mini secretariat will use the 20-foot area along the BSNL Exchange wall as a service lane during this time.
