Amarnath Yatra Will Temporarily Terminate On August 23

The Amarnath Yatra will be suspended starting on August 23 due to a drop in pilgrimage and the need to fix the tracks in the Himalayas, according to the Jammu and Kashmir government.

More than 4.4 lakh pilgrims have already visited the shrine this year, according to the administration, making it the yatra’s busiest ever.

The movement of pilgrims on either of the two tracks leading to the holy cave is not recommended, according to the Amarnath Shrine Board authorities, who have stated this due to a significant decrease in the flow of pilgrims and the urgent need to repair and maintain the yatra tracks at vulnerable stretches. “Therefore, with effect from August 23, 2023, the yatra shall be temporarily suspended from both routes. On August 31, Chadi Mubarak will complete the customary Pahalgam route, signaling the end of the yatra, it stated.

This year’s 62-day trip began on July 1 and will conclude on August 31 with the “Chadi Mubarak” celebration.

Both routes—the Pahalgam track in the Anantnag district and Baltal in the Ganderbal district—started the yatra at the same time.

More than 4.4 lakh pilgrims have already visited the shrine this year, according to the administration, making it the yatra’s busiest ever.
