The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is considering proposals for a visa system that would make it easier for citizens to visit Saudi Arabia and other Gulf neighboring countries.
According to UAE Economy Minister Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri, who spoke at a conference in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday, the new visa system will permit citizens of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) to travel freely within the nations that make up the bloc, including Saudi Arabia. According to him, the regime might be implemented “very soon,” according to Bloomberg.
Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Oman, Kuwait, and Qatar are members of the GCC. Visa applications are not required to cross borders for residents of the six-nation union. Visas are still required to cross GCC borders for foreign residents, who make up the majority of their populations and come from all over the world.
Al Marri noted that visa-free travel between the nations’ citizens increases tourism, which attracts more people to the area.
