The Seven Most Amazing Destinations for the Month of July

Many places, little time. July is peak summer, but airfare, hotel minimum stays, and rate rises don’t necessarily follow. Just follow our recommendations to the seven most popular (yet affordable) destinations.

Destination Selection Weather

We consider each location’s weather and how it can affect a stay—and prices—in July.

Special Events

Local events? We investigate cool events, concerts, activities, and cultural experiences.

Travel Costs

In July, we compared flight prices from Skyscanner across the U.S. To find the best bargains, we checked Vrbo, Airbnb, Expedia, and Kayak hotel prices in each area.

Our Trips

Finally, we shared anecdotes on what jet-setting readers like you will adore this month.

According to Expedia’s Vacation Deprivation research, worldwide vacation deprivation is at a 10-year high and Gen-Z and millennials are most affected—that’s us! Hampton’s sun-soaked beaches and lovely, shoppable villages are perfect for a long weekend getaway in the summer, offering travellers the proper amount of peace and quiet without boredom.

Family-friendly sand and swimming at Coopers Beach in Southampton, a surprising art tour at Parrish Art Museum in Water Mill with contemporary and historical pieces, and lots of al fresco dining with seafood towers or lobster rolls at Bostwick’s Chowder House. Maison Close Montauk, an outpost of the Soho, NYC French restaurant that’s always a party, and Talya, which a spokesman described as a “Mediterranean restaurant concept infused with Greek provenance and bearing delicate nuances of coastal-French whimsy,” are new and sure to be buzzy this summer.

Going out in the Hamptons requires your best appearance. In July, Jeuveau and UnionDerm are branding a Jitney to honour their Water Mill location. On July 14, attendees can enjoy local food and wine, talk to company reps, and get a Jeuveau skin boost at a unique pop-up event.

Danang is one of the best summer getaways with white sand beaches, enormous shopping centres, and world-class cuisine. Da Nang, in central Vietnam, features several cultural attractions, including the Dragon Bridge, which lights up at night and spouts fire and water on weekends.

The Danang International Fireworks Festival ends on July 8, making you feel like a kid again. The newly rebuilt InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort will provide a package with free entrance to Bana Hills, an entertainment park with a thrilling cable car ride. In July, we found other hotels with affordable prices (as low as $52/night) and Airbnb pool-view balcony rooms for $27/night.

July temperatures are in the low 90s, and flight prices are inexpensive for ideal summer months considering how far you’re travelling. Da Nang, like much of the South Central Coast of Vietnam, has sea breezes and leafy trees to beat the heat.

Da Nang has several fascinating ancient attractions, including the Marble Mountains, five limestone and marble hills with Buddhist and Hindu sanctuaries. From Da Nang, you may visit Hại An, a 1999 UNESCO World Heritage Site, to see its well-preserved architecture and culture.

Taos, New Mexico, is a must-see for experiencing the American Southwest’s seclusion and eclecticism. In winter, it features world-class steep skiing. Taos, known for its eclectic mix of galleries and shopping, attracts amateur and professional art collectors, and the historic Taos Plaza contains local works for sale to satisfy any taste, as well as decor boutiques and amazing apparel you won’t find in the mall.

Taos rancher Julia Roberts is famous. As a local shop owner stated, most people “run away to hide from something” in Taos, so the locals respect her privacy and leave her alone. In the summer, Taos offers hiking, mountain biking, whitewater rafting, and hot air balloon tours.

Free time? The Blake’s spa will put you in the mood to enjoy the red rocks with a massage. The Millicent Rogers Museum and the Taos Pueblo, one of North America’s oldest adobe towns and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1992, are also great places to learn about the area’s history and culture. Laughter Yoga, which promotes therapeutic laughter, is also scheduled for July. You’re welcome to enjoy the region’s breathtaking panoramas from many sides, but save the West Rim Trail or Sunset Park for a sunset walk or trek.

Savannah’s excellent mix of historical monuments and ghost tours keeps it alive after three centuries! The Perry Lane Hotel was rated #1 TripAdvisor’s Travellers Choice in the country due to its attractive position in the historic neighbourhood and 11-minute walk to Forsyth Park, where old oaks and Spanish moss trees provide a dreamlike scene. The park hosts July’s Summer Concert Series and has a French-inspired fountain from 1858.

The City Market, a commercial, shopping, and socialising hub since the 1700s, is a short walk away. Belford’s is one of many local eateries with award-winning steak and seafood. Six street-level galleries and an upstairs Art Centre let you meet local artists and see them work while you explore the market. History aficionados can walk to Telfair Museum and Ship Of The Sea Maritime Museum.

Savannah claims to be America’s most haunted city, and walking downtown is like walking through a time tunnel with Victorian-era homes and 22 lovely squares where tour operators compete to take you on the town’s famous Ghost Tours! They kitschy? They’re fun and plentiful. Whether you like walking tours or funeral car tours around the city’s most macabre spots, there’s a tour for you.

The serene settlement has the 16th-century marble monastery Panagia Tourliani. Greek mythology? Delos, the UNESCO World Heritage Site where Apollo and Artemis were born, is a must-see in Mykonos. from Mykonos, a 30-minute boat ride.

Dazed by this rich history? Relax on one of the island’s many beaches, such Platis Gialos. Want nightlife? Party travellers love Paraga Beach because it has three beach clubs. Scorpios is its most famous venue, although Kalua and SantAnna are wonderful places to party Dionysus-style!

Big Sky, Montana, is still appealing after the ski season. This mountain village near Yellowstone National Park has stunning views and lots of hiking and bike paths. Horseback riding and rafting on the Gallatin River in summer often yield wildlife observations. Moose, elk, wolves, and grizzlies live in Big Sky.

Big Sky has a burgeoning central business centre with several boutique shops and a magnificent, outdoorsy charm. Rhinestone Cowgirl helps you master cowboy or cowboycation style. We also recommend the Blue Buddha sushi club and Drunken Monk speakeasy for pre- or post-dinner cocktails. Visit cultural centres like the Crail Ranch Homestead Museum to experience Western hospitality and learn about the area’s rich history.

Big Sky is the perfect place to unplug, reconnect with nature, and experience the Great West. Savour Big Sky, their new cuisine festival, runs June 29–July 2. Attendees will enjoy top vineyards, distilleries, and breweries, hikes, scenic chairlift rides, and breathtaking alpine views.

Do as Romans or travellers do in Rome. Italy topped TripAdvisor’s Summer Travel Index for U.S., U.K., Australia, Japan, and Singapore travellers. It’s simple to see why the boot gets so much fame, especially in Rome, whether it’s White Lotus energy or not. The city is full of history, culture, and magnificent architecture and has the best July airfare. The Colosseum is just the beginning, and we enjoy that the Roman Forum and Pantheon are free. Galleria Borghese offers another art-based historical lesson. MAXXI, Rome’s contemporary art museum, showcases 21st-century Roman art.

Giolitti gelato is necessary for dessert. Scarpetta is Rome’s latest restaurant. Modern Italian-American restaurant in Rome? Strangely, yes—and it’s already being called a “maximalist Roman dream with a New York twist.” Suites with Roman arches are in the InterContinental Rome Ambasciatori Palace, where the restaurant sits. Charlie’s rooftop bar, managed by Scarpetta/LVD Hospitality, is a great place to start a night out with unique live music and DJ sets and Aperol Spritz!

Outdoorsy travellers can visit Sperlonga, Santa Marinella, Ostia Antica, and Castel Gandolfo, the Pope’s summer residence. Throw a coin in the Trevi Fountain for good luck and to assure you’ll return to this amazing city. —Beatriz Verneaux contributed reporting.
