Some of India’s visa services in Canada will resume

The high commission in Ottawa declared that India will start offering certain visa services in Canada on Thursday. Following the Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s citation of convincing information suggesting a possible connection between Indian operatives and the death of Canadian citizen Hardeep Singh Nijjar, New Delhi stopped new visas for Canadians last month and requested that Canada scale back its diplomatic presence. 41 diplomats were subsequently removed by Canada. India has blasted Trudeau for making statements without providing references or supporting documentation, and it denies any involvement in the shooting.

The high commission in Ottawa said on Wednesday that India would start offering certain visa services again in Canada on Thursday. This comes days after S. Jaishankar, the minister of external affairs, had hinted at a possible return if there were improvements in the safety of diplomats.

Following the Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s citation of what he considered to be credible evidence of a potential connection between Indian agents and the June murder of Canadian citizen Hardeep Singh Nijjar in a Vancouver suburb, New Delhi suspended new visas for Canadians and requested that Canada scale back its diplomatic presence. 41 diplomats were subsequently removed by Canada.

India has blasted Trudeau for making statements without providing references or supporting documentation, and it denies any involvement in the shooting.

The high commission announced on Wednesday that, following an assessment of the security situation and consideration of recent Canadian measures—which it did not list—it had chosen to begin issuing some types of visas.

It declared that it would start issuing business, conference, and normal entrance visas once more.
