Seven additional airports, including Ayodhya, will have security provided by UPSSF

The Principal Secretary of the Home Department, Sanjay Prasad, signed an order on October 20 about the deployment of UPSSF at these airports, according to a senior home department official who made the announcement on Thursday.

A specialized devoted force modeled after the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), the Uttar Pradesh Special Security Force (UPSSF) will guard seven recently built airports at Ayodhya, Chitrakoot, Sonbhadra, Shravasti, Aligarh, Moradabad, and Azamgarh. Prior to the force’s deployment, the directive directs the U.P. Director General of Police (DGP) to ascertain the roles and responsibilities of the local police and the UPSSF in terms of security.

The UPSSF deployed its thirty employees to Lok Bhawan in Lucknow on September 1, 2022, marking the start of the organization’s operations. This force was created specifically to guard VIP facilities, various U.P. courts, airports, banks, and metro stations. The state administration declared on December 31, 2019, that this force would be formed following the dramatic death of a double murder suspect in front of a chief judicial magistrate in Bijnor district.

The first troop of specially trained commandos has been stationed at Lok Bhawan, according to UPSSF authorities.

He added that the first 200 UPSSF members had been taken on deputation from the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) and civil police, and that in August of last year, they had finished their nine months of specialized training at the Sitapur Police Training College. According to him, the nine months of training consist of three months of specialized training to guard VVIP facilities, courts, airports, banks, and metros by having them analyze danger indicators at these locations, in addition to six months of standard training for commandos.

According to information provided by a senior police official, the state government authorized 5,124 vacancies for UPSSF employees across various ranks in April 2022. Up to 87 positions have been approved for the UPSSF headquarters in Lucknow, and 5,037 positions have been approved for five enterprises that will be located in Lucknow, Prayagraj, Mathura, Gorakhpur, and Saharanpur.

The official stated that the following positions were authorized for the headquarters: six ministerial inspectors, 18 sub-inspectors, 12 head constables, 40 constables, one additional director general, one inspector general, one deputy inspector general, one commandant, and one reserve inspector.

The official added that five UPSSF companies have been authorized to have five commandant and five deputy commandant positions apiece, in addition to twenty-five assistant commandant positions. He noted that appointments of 163 company commanders, 219 sub-inspector rank platoon commanders, 853 head constables and armorers, 3,219 constables, 340 drivers, 18 ministerial sub-inspectors, and 50 assistant sub-inspectors had also been approved. In addition, 100 more radio communication roles, 10 pharmacists, 5 radio inspectors, and 5 medical officers were approved.
