Rafting on the Bhagirathi River begins at the Harsil Valley thanks to the Uttarakhand Tourism Board.

In the Harsil Valley, close to Uttarkashi, the Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board (UTDB) has announced the start of White-Water Rafting on the Bhagirathi River.  Harshil Valley, which is situated on the banks of the Bhagirathi, has long been famous for its significance in the Char Dham Yatra pilgrimage as well as for its beautiful hiking trails.

Three river rafting spots, including the section of the Bhagirathi between the Jangla and Jhala bridges, have been identified by UTDB as part of the Vibrant Village initiative, along with additional areas in the Uttarkashi and Dehradun districts.

When making the announcement, Shri Satpal Maharaj, the government of Uttarakhand’s honorable minister of tourism, irrigation, culture, and public works, said, “Both pilgrims and thrill-seekers would now enjoy the bliss of river rafting on the Bhagirathi River near Harsil. Additionally, this will give local youth additional employment opportunities in the tourism industry.

Colonel Ashwini Pundir, Additional Chief Executive Officer of UTDB, expressed his excitement for the announcement of river rafting in the Harsil Valley and said, “The introduction of river rafting in Harsil Valley is a significant milestone for Uttarakhand’s tourism industry, providing a new and unique experience for visitors and boosting the local economy. With Harshil Valley’s breathtaking natural splendor, the conditions are ideal for river rafting between the Jangla and Jhala bridges.

Two rafting firms that have started offering river rafting in the Valley have received approval from UTDB for this reason. It will go on like this until June 30th, 2023.
