  • Punjab plans to take use of the ecotourism potential in Pathankot and Hoshiarpur.

The Punjab government invites the private sector to make investments in hotels, wellness resorts, theme parks, and other hospitality services.
The Punjabi government wants to revitalize the industry by focusing on wellness tourism and eco-tourism through the development of large-scale projects in the districts of Pathankot and Hoshiarpur.
In order to draw tourists and entice the private sector to invest in theme parks, wellness resorts, hotels, and other hospitality amenities, it has drawn up plans to develop Kulara Island near the Ranjit Sagar dam in Pathankot as well as Talwara and Maili in Hoshiarpur as natural and eco-tourism attractions. Punjab is doing well in the border and religious tourist industries. Our current key areas of focus include the state’s water sports, adventure, and ecotourism industries. In the New Chandigarh neighborhoods of Pathankot, Hoshiarpur, Ropar, and Siswan, there are many places with stunning natural scenery, forests, picturesque water bodies, and dams. Before the three-day Tourism Summit and Travel Mart, which is set to begin in SAS Nagar (Mohali) on September 11, Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Investment Promotion Anmol Gagan Maan said, “There is tremendous potential, particularly in Pathankot as travel time from Amritsar will reduce with the new highway.

The cabinet minister claimed that a clear development schedule and the necessary clearances are in place. Taj Group, ITC, Club Mahindra, and Leela Group have expressed interest in attending the summit and confirmed their attendance. Wonderla, which is involved in a number of significant projects in south India, is thinking of investing 500–600 crore in a theme park there. For its proposal, Club Mahindra is seeking for suitable site, she said.

Constructing Historic Forts

With the help of seasoned investors from the hotel industry, the tourism department is also experimenting with the notion of converting historic forts and palaces with distinctive architectural styles into historical properties. Punjab is blessed with a rich history and numerous palaces. Finding palaces unrelated to Sikh heritage and converting them into commercial properties is the idea. A prestigious organization that oversees numerous historic hotels and palaces has indicated interest, according to Maan.

The state, according to the tourism minister, has outstanding transportation options, including four domestic airports, two international airports (Amritsar and Mohali), and a first-rate road and rail system. She claimed that the administration has continually worked to increase flight frequency and upgrade facilities. She urged NRIs to invest in the tourist and hospitality sectors in the state, saying, “This is the best time with an investor-friendly government in place, unlike in the past when the then governments neglected the tourism sector, lacked a policy, and did not maintain heritage.”
