A definitive order for 500 Airbus A320 Family aircraft has been secured by IndiGo. Between 2030 and 2035, this will give IndiGo access to an additional constant stream of deliveries. This 500-plane order represents not only IndiGo’s largest purchase to date with Airbus, but also the largest single aircraft order ever made by any airline. The precise ratio of A320 and A321 aircraft will be determined in due course, along with the engine choice for this order.
Currently, IndiGo runs over 300 aircraft, and between now and the end of this decade, it still has 480 aircraft on order that will need to be delivered. With this further solid order for 500 aircraft for the years 2030–2035, over 1.000 aircraft still need to be delivered for IndiGo well into the following ten years. There are a variety of A320NEO, A321NEO, and A321XLR aircraft in this IndiGo order-book.
The Board of IndiGo was informed of the appraisal of the bids, had a discussion regarding it, and then approved it. The strategic partnership between IndiGo and Airbus will reach previously unheard-of depths and breadths thanks to this new order. With this latest order, IndiGo will have placed a staggering total of 1.330 aircraft with Airbus since its founding in 2006.
IndiGo will be able to retain its strong focus on cutting operational costs and delivering fuel efficiency with high levels of dependability thanks to the fuel-efficient A320NEO Family aircraft. Building on the previously realised CO2 reduction of 21% between FY16 and FY23, IndiGo’s young and fuel-efficient fleet will assist the airline in attaining its sustainability goals.
IndiGo anticipates taking on 100 million passengers this year, thereby giving the country wings. With this order, one of the world’s fastest-growing airlines, IndiGo, will be able to maintain its rapid expansion for many years to come.
Pieter Elbers, the CEO of IndiGo, offered the following comment in response: “It is challenging to overestimate the significance of IndiGo’s new historic order for 500 Airbus A320 Family aircraft. With almost 1.000 aircraft on order, IndiGo can continue to support India’s economic growth, social cohesion, and mobility well into the next decade. We at IndiGo are proud to be one of the top airlines in the world and India’s preferred airline for connectivity both within and outside of the country. This purchase firmly confirms IndiGo’s faith in the development of India, the A320 Family, and our strategic alliance with Airbus.
Before the conclusion of this decade, the Indian economy is anticipated to increase even further, moving from being the fifth largest in the world to the third largest. The Honourable Prime Minister Modi has made it a priority to guarantee that India assumes leadership in aviation by 2030 by investing in cutting-edge infrastructure and turning India into a major hub for the industry. With its current fleet and the nearly 1.000 aircraft that are still to be delivered, IndiGo is not only well-positioned to grow and densify its unrivalled network, but it will also play a full and active part in achieving this aim.
