According to K. Ramachandran, the minister of tourism, Tamil Nadu welcomed more than 2.67 lakh foreign visitors in the first three months of this year, according to The Hindu.
Similar to this, 11,53,36,719 domestic tourists visited Tamil Nadu in 2021, and that number increased to 21,85,84,846 in 2022. Ramachandran stated that between January and March of this year, “we received 6,64,90,154 domestic visitors to become a major player in India’s tourism industry.”
He claimed that the Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation, established in 1971, ran 28 hotels with 473 air-conditioned rooms and 199 regular rooms in Tirunelveli, Madurai, Coimbatore, Tiruchi, Salem, Thanjavur, Udhagamandalam, Kodaikanal, and Ercaud. The TTDC has 172 rooms in the hill stations.
588 boats were used for the pleasure boat services and water sports available at Kodaikanal, Udhagamandalam, Pykara, Ercaud, Muttukaadu, Mudhaliyarkuppam, Pitchavaram, Courtallam, and Vaalangkulam.
According to Ramachandran, the Tamil Nadu government would look into the possibility of adding tourism attractions to the well-known temples in the Tirunelveli area.
The Minister paid a site near the Manimuthar Dam in the evening where the Department of Tourism intends to build an adventure park with camping amenities for INR 5 crore.
“This project by the Tourism Department will also add more colour to this area to attract a huge number of tourists all year long,” he said. “Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has announced that the Biodiversity Museum and Conservation Centre with an Eco Park would come up on 23 acres near Manimuthar Dam on an outlay of INR 7 crore.
The renovation of the Hotel Tamil Nadu with a bar near the Tiruunelveli Collectorate campus cost INR 80 lakh. The Minister stated, “We provide discounts to older persons and the physically handicapped in the TTDC hotels.
