Indian visitors’ nights booked for international vacation more than doubled in Q1 2023: Airbnb

Notes: Indians are seeking domestic travel adventures as well as international ones, the online accomodation hosting platform claimed, indulging in beach getaways, metropolitan escapades, and peaceful vacations in the hills.

According to Airbnb, the UK, US, and several other European nations emerged as the top domestic travel destinations in January through March of this year, with the nights booked by Indian guests for overseas travel more than doubling year over year.

“Among domestic locations, Goa tops the list, followed by Bengaluru, Pune, Delhi, and Kullu.

When comparing full-year 2022 with pre-pandemic 2019, the total number of nights booked in India increased by 70%, while domestic nights increased by roughly 11%, according to Airbnb.

According to Amanpreet Singh Bajaj, general manager of Airbnb for India, Southeast Asia, Hong Kong, and Taiwan, the company is experiencing “very strong momentum” in all three of its market sectors, whether they are domestic, international, or inbound.

He said that the hosting platform operates in more than 120 Indian cities and that there is a significant increase in demand from Indian tourists for non-urban locations such as rural homestays.

This year, Bajaj stated, “our main focus is to make sure that we continue to innovate so that it is simple for new hosts to join the platform.”

When comparing the full year 2022 with pre-pandemic 2019, the platform said that total nights booked in India have increased by 70%, with solo and family travel being the most popular choices among Indian visitors.

Additionally, Airbnb has noticed a steadfast interest from foreign visitors to travel to India and experience the nation’s rich culture and legacy.

The US, the UK, Germany, Australia, and Canada are the top countries from which Airbnb visitors come to India.

To support and speed up the ongoing travel recovery, “We’re committed to working closely with the government and industry stakeholders,” Bajaj added.
