The length of the travel will be recorded during the smart bus trial period in Srinagar, which also aims to acquaint drivers with the routes and test the IT and video systems while they are in motion.
In Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, smart electric buses were unveiled on Thursday. These buses come equipped with cameras and air conditioning (AC).
The Dalgate-Nishat-Hazratbal, TRC-Iqbal Park-Airport, Old City through Khanyar, and Karan Nagar-Soura routes were the first four major routes in the city where these buses were put through their paces by the smart city officials.
During the trial phase, which also seeks to acquaint drivers with the routes and test the IT and video systems on the go, the commuting time will be recorded.
Athar Aamir Khan, an official with the Smart City Mission and a municipal commissioner, said of the same vehicles, “These are electric and zero emission buses and are sustainable in towns like Srinagar. Before they are formally inaugurated, the trail run’s goal was to get them running on our roadways.
In Srinagar’s present public transportation system, which is primarily handled by private operators, people have frequently complained about overloading. Additionally, in the nights, city streets become desolate, which is very inconvenient for late-night commuters.
In order to modernize traffic management, the Smart City Mission officials have pushed for 100 of these buses to help alleviate the issues associated with a shortage of public transportation without significantly burdening the environment.
“These 100 buses will greatly enhance local transportation. These buses are clean and won’t contribute to pollution because they are electric, according to Khan.
The commissioner said, “We are hopeful that by next month, we should have the entire project for rollout once the entire fleet is here.” Trial runs will be conducted on all routes, he said.
In addition to air conditioning, the buses offer five cameras, including ones in the front, back, and next to the driver’s seat. Additionally, the driver has a console that he can use to inspect the doors. Buttons that alert the driver about stoppages are located on the seats of the passengers.
Additionally, our command and control center is connected to the panic buttons on the buses.
“These buses all have live CCTV cameras, and there are seats set aside for women. There are technical assistants on board each bus, and a command and control center keeps an eye on them. Women and the elderly will benefit most from the bus’ design, according to Khan.
The Smart City Mission authorities have created a comprehensive plan for the city’s public transportation system that outlines which buses can travel which routes as well as the locations of stops, halting spots, depots, and charging stations.
mobile ticketing app
A smartphone app will be used to purchase tickets and passes.
“It is similar to the existing structure,” Khan stated in reference to the fare structure. And you’ll use the pass or card just like you would in a subway. The national common mobility card is another option.
