5 Airports Leased To Anil Ambani’s Reliance Airport Development May Be Reclaimed By Maharashtra

According to Devendra Fadnavis, deputy chief minister of Maharashtra, the airports at Latur, Osmanabad, Nanded, Yavatmal, and Baramati that were leased to the struggling Anil Ambani Group are likely to be taken back by the state government.

“Roughly in 2009, Reliance received some airports for 30 years of development. The state government is considering taking back these airports from the company, though, as a result of the lack of progress in their development. The State Assembly was informed by Fadnavis that construction has completely stopped at the airports in Nanded and Latur.

Reliance Airport Development Limited won an auction held by the government in 2009 by placing the highest bid of INR 63 crore, winning the project for all five airports.

Fadnavis continued, “We will seek the state advocate general’s opinion on whether we can regain control unilaterally. In order to expedite the resolution, the Anil Ambani-led company’s failure to pay its debts prompted the state government to consult the advocate general.

“Nanded, Latur airport construction has halted. The business that received the work hasn’t made the required payments. We’ll consider AG’s advice and move this project along quickly. Next year, Navi Mumbai airport will open, he tweeted.
