According to the most recent government data, India made INR 5,54,657 crore abroad from tourism between 2019 and May of this year. The overall revenue for 2019 was INR 2,16,467 crore, the largest amount during the previous five years, but the following year it fell to INR 50,136 crore, and the following year it was just INR 65,070 crore.
“Covid shutdown affected both 2020 and 2021, and even domestic travellers were prohibited from leaving their hotels. According to a senior official from the Ministry of Tourism, this is the cause of the reduced foreign exchange profits in those two years.
