The number of visa applications in India for the current year is projected to exceed the record set in 2019.

The quantity of visa applications submitted in India during the current calendar year is poised to surpass the levels observed in the pre-pandemic year of 2019. Despite the ongoing challenges faced by two prominent destinations, namely the United States and Schengen states, characterized by prolonged interview wait periods and appointment limitations, as well as exorbitant ticket costs.

According to VFS Global, a company responsible for overseeing visa applications for over 50 countries, the number of visa applications processed in India from January to June 2023 has exceeded 3 million, compared to 6 million in 2019. It is worth noting that the latter period did not encounter the obstacles currently being seen. Coincidentally, the year 2019 witnessed a significant surge in visa applications in India, a record-breaking achievement that is expected to be surpassed in the year 2023.

It is anticipated that the number of visa applications would exceed the levels observed prior to the epidemic by the conclusion of the current calendar year. There has been a significant resurgence in the attitudes towards outbound travel. According to Prabuddha Sen, the Chief Operating Officer (South Asia) of VFS Global, the level of rebound has led to a disparity between demand and supply, despite early skepticism. The reduction in international airfares has not been observed subsequent to the universal reopening of borders in the 2021-22 period. It is not unusual to encounter a situation where the previous round-trip fare has been replaced by a single one-way cost. Notwithstanding this period of economic strain, there has been a resurgence in demand.
