State-run bus drivers will receive a ₹10,000 reward for an accident-free year beginning in January

The transport minister of Uttar Pradesh has unveiled a plan to reward state-run bus drivers for safe driving with a one-time payment of ₹10,000 to those who qualify. The program’s goal is to lower the quantity of state bus accidents.

According to an official announcement, Dayashankar Singh, the minister of transportation for Uttar Pradesh, unveiled a plan on Tuesday that attempts to reward state-run bus drivers for their “safe and accident-free driving.”

According to the minister of transportation, a driver can only be eligible for the program if they have completed 66,000 kilometers between January 1 and December 31 and have worked at least 264 days of duty. (Date)

Slated to take effect in January, the “Safe Driving Incentive Scheme” seeks to reduce the number of traffic incidents involving buses operated by the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC).

In accordance with the program, drivers who meet the requirements will get a lump sum payment of ₹10,000 in exchange for a year of driving without an accident. However, a driver would no longer be eligible for that scheme for that year if he or she does not complete the required amount of working days or kilometers, or if they are involved in an accident, within the specified term.

The minister further stated that if a driver has completed 66,000 kilometers between January 1 and December 31 and has worked at least 264 days of duty, they are qualified to receive benefits from the program.

An incident meets the scheme’s definition of “accident” when a first information report of a fatality or serious injury has been filed.

“A huge amount is given as compensation as a result of accidents, and the operation gets affected due to damages to buses,” the minister was reportedly cited as saying. Additionally, this results in a loss of money.
