SpiceJet started conducting special Haj flights from Bhopal, Gaya, Vijayawada, Aurangabad, and Srinagar as part of its Haj activities. For its Haj operations, the airline has introduced two wide-body A340 planes.
The first Haj flight from Srinagar was flagged off by Manoj Sinha, the Hon. Lieutenant Governor of Jammu & Kashmir.
Between June 7 and June 22, SpiceJet will offer special flights from Aurangabad, Vijayawada, Bhopal, Gaya, and Srinagar to Jeddah. From July 17 to August 2, Medina-bound flights are planned to depart once more. SpiceJet would fly close to 21,000 pilgrims on 200 special flights.
SpiceJet’s chairman and managing director, Ajay Singh, said the airline was honored to fly pilgrims on special Haj flights this year. Nearly 21,000 pilgrims will be transported on 200 planes we will be operating. We are deploying wide-body aircraft for Haj for the first time, and this will be our largest-ever multicity operation. To ensure a hassle-free and enjoyable pilgrimage, we are all prepared. I hope everyone has a fantastic time at Mecca this year.
For these unique flights, SpiceJet will also use its Boeing 737 MAX fleet in addition to the A340. Around 5500 pilgrims were transported by SpiceJet, the sole airline in India to undertake special Haj flights last year.
