OYO plans to open 300 hotels in hill stations this summer

In order to take advantage of the summer vacation demand, the leading global travel technology business OYO is increasing the number of hotels throughout popular mountain retreats in India. By the end of August 2023, the business plans to open 300 new hotels in locations including Manali, Mussoorie, Nainital, Srinagar, Shimla, Dalhousie, and Haridwar in the north; Ooty, Munnar, and Kodaikanal in the south; Gangtok, Darjeeling, and Shillong in the east; and Lonavala and Mahabaleshwar in the west.

OYO has already opened more than 180 hotels in the aforementioned cities since March 2023 after noticing a significant level of traveller interest. This summer, key hill stations are experiencing a considerable increase in demand as more tourists look to stay within the country for their vacations. The OYO’s Summer Vacation Index 2023 indicates that 82% of Indians expect to travel this summer, with 92% of those trips being domestic. Mountains are the obvious winner this summer with 30% of the vote, followed by beaches with 26%. The development of OYO into hill destinations occurs at a good time, allowing vacationers to maximise their time while also having a positive effect on the local economy and communities.

Manali has surpassed Haridwar and Gangtok as the most popular hill destination, according to the firm. In terms of bookings, Ooty, Nainital, Srinagar, Mussoorie, Munnar, and Darjeeling are the other top locations. Munnar leads the way in terms of growth with a 95% rise in bookings year over year, followed by Srinagar and Nainital at 61% and 53%, respectively.

A spokeswoman for OYO commented on the expansion plan by saying, “Summer travel holds a special place in our hearts, conjuring nostalgic memories of a carefree period from our childhood. More than ever, individuals want to recreate those special occasions and establish a connection with nature. The increase in demand for hill stations that we are currently seeing is proof of that. The tourist and hospitality industries will receive a significant boost from the trend during the following three months. We want to give visitors a variety of options while also helping to boost domestic tourism with our expansion throughout important hill stations in India. OYO is still committed to providing outstanding hospitality services and making sure that our visitors enjoy a special stay as we move forward.

In 2023, OYO plans to expand into hill destinations in addition to adding 1800 new hotels to its portfolio as part of its continuous premiumization strategy. OYO aims to meet the varied needs and tastes of its clients by providing top-notch lodging in addition to the already affordable options.
