NHAI wants to revamp the busy Lal Kuan crossroads in Ghaziabad.

Restructuring the intersection, according to NHAI authorities, will help with traffic flow and provide commuters with a smooth route to Hapur, Meerut, Aligarh, Noida, and Ghaziabad.

The Delhi-Meerut Expressway, National Highway-9, and the GT Road all merge at the Lal Kuan intersection, making it a hectic and crowded location throughout the day. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has planned to reconstruct this intersection.Along from serving DME traffic that travels above it, the surface road between Aligarh and Ghaziabad experiences heavy traffic at the Lal Kuan intersection.

Restructuring the intersection, according to NHAI authorities, will help with traffic flow and provide commuters with a smooth route to Hapur, Meerut, Aligarh, Noida, and Ghaziabad.

According to officials with knowledge of the situation, a DME entry/exit now located close to ABES college will be moved to Lal Kuan. Additionally, they will build an underpass that will direct traffic from Ghaziabad to Aligarh via neighboring Gautam Budh Nagar.

The 14.9 km long GT Road renovation plan includes the underpass’ intended development. According to the most recent project report delivered to NHAI headquarters earlier in September, the total cost of the planned rehabilitation plan is estimated to be 628 crore.

“It is suggested to move the entry/exit point next to the ABES college to Lal Kuan, about a kilometer distant, and to close the current one. We have submitted a request for clearance for that to the NHAI corporate office. The design and finances will be chosen after it is approved. Additionally, the proposed underpass at Lal Kuan will facilitate traffic flow between Ghaziabad and Aligarh, while traffic in other directions will utilize a traffic circle at the intersection, according to an NHAI official who wished to remain anonymous.

General VK Singh (retired), a member of parliament from Ghaziabad, revealed to reporters during a news conference on Wednesday that he had inspected the DME earlier in the week.

“The redevelopment plan will soon take shape and comes at great expense. Additionally, the budget approval process will be sped up. We established a committee to investigate the traffic problems on DME around one and a half months ago. We followed it up with a ground-level inspection, and a safety committee will now perform a third-party verification. Therefore, these adjustments will improve traffic flow and lower accident rates, according to Gen. Singh.

Traffic police officers are currently stationed at the entry/exit point next to the ABES college, where they observe wrong-side driving when cars travel from National Highway 9 to the expressway lanes from places like Vijay Nagar and Crossings Republik. The NHAI headquarters has already received the comprehensive project report for the renovation of GT Road.
