  • MP wants to increase tourism in Kuno by organizing a cheetah safari.

The Central Zoo Authority and the National Tiger Conservation Authority have each received a proposal from the state.
A forest official with knowledge of the situation stated on Friday that the Madhya Pradesh government is preparing a cheetah safari in the Kuno National Park’s (KNP) Saisaipura region in order to enhance tourism and create income.

According to the source, the state has submitted an application for clearance to the Central Zoo Authority and the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA). “A proposal has been sent in an effort to boost tourism and the local economy in Saisaipura. The 150 hectares will be developed, according to KNP director Uttam Kumar Sharma.

According to a senior officer of the MP Forest Department, “the safari will have cheetahs that cannot survive in the wild and can be easily sighted by people.”

Since the translocation of 20 large cats to India in two groups from Namibia and South Africa in September of last year and February of 2023, respectively, six adult cheetahs have perished in Kuno. In addition, three of the four cubs born in India have already passed away.

Considering that it is unsettling when wild cheetahs mate, he said that the safari will also serve as a breeding facility to increase the cheetah population.
