Mobile device use will not be permitted during darshan at the Banke Bihari Temple

The move is currently in the experimental stage, according to Munish Sharma, a management official for the temple, and is just one of many being considered to improve how visitors travel around the premises.

Mobile phone usage will be limited when visitors are receiving “darshan” at the Sri Banke Bihari Temple in Vrindavan, according to the Mathura district government and police.

Devotees were instructed to place their phones in bags near the entry point and carry the bags with them during a trial run earlier this week. Near the exit, they were able to remove the phones.

Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Shailesh Pandey said: “Devotees frequently bring their camera-equipped phones into the temple and photograph ‘Thakur Ji,’ which is actually forbidden by the temple administration. Devotees also create live movies and reels and wait longer for darshan. Crowd movement is hampered by this. As a result, many options are being considered to address this problem, Pandey continued.

“This plan called for the usage of backpacks that had phones inside and were locked. At the departure, the RFID-equipped luggage were opened, Pandey continued.

Radio waves are used by Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) to identify individuals or things. The technique “tags” or reads data from a wireless device from a distance without coming into touch with it.

The move is currently in the experimental stage, according to Munish Sharma, a management official for the temple, and is just one of many being considered to improve how visitors travel around the premises.

Recall that during the temple’s 2022 Janamasthami celebrations, two devotees perished from asphyxia. There are frequently recorded incidents of worshippers passing out in the temple.

The state administration proposed building Banke Bihari Temple Corridor along the lines of Kashi Vishwanath Corridor in Varanasi to alleviate the space issue, and the High Court of Allahabad is currently hearing the case.
