MMRDA will receive the Thane site in exchange for four metro route car sheds.

Several Mogharpada residents opposed the building of the auto shed in June and demanded that the administration pay the people before starting the project. When revenue and MMRDA officers visited the location prior to the monsoon, a group of local villagers organized a protest in front of the Thane revenue office.
MUMBAI: The state cabinet will soon approve a plan to give the MMRDA access to 71.04 hectares of land in Thane’s Mogharpada so it can build car sheds for four metro routes. This will hasten the development of the metro.

The land, which is located in Survey No. 30, would house car sheds for the Metro 4 and Metro 4A lines that connect Wadala to Kasarwadavli, Gaimukh and Shivaji Chowk along Mira Road, and Kalyan and Taloja, respectively.

With a length of almost 32 kilometers, Mumbai’s Metro 4 is the longest in the city. Due to the lack of a car shed, construction has suffered, and just 43% of the civil work has been finished. The metro has a history of missing deadlines. Sanjay Mukherjee, commissioner of the MMRDA, and S V R Srinivas, his predecessor, had pushed the state to give them this site.

Eknath Shinde has been attempting to expedite the Metro 4 project since he was elected chief minister since it will connect his Thane electorate with Mumbai.

The state owns the Mogharpada land. It was leased to 167 lessees and used for agricultural purposes. It is close to Ghodbunder Road and the Sanjay Gandhi National Park.

Several Mogharpada residents opposed the building of the auto shed in June and demanded that the administration pay the people before starting the project. When revenue and MMRDA officers visited the location prior to the monsoon, a group of local villagers organized a protest in front of the Thane revenue office.

Local Shiv Sena members, who had been on the side of the villagers, sent a letter to the then-MMRDA commissioner SVR Srinivas asking him to put a stop to the process. According to a program modeled after CIDCO’s, the landowners will likely receive 22,5% of the developed property as compensation.

For the projected Metro Line 12, which will run from Kalyan to Taloja in Niljepada, MMRDA acquired property for a vehicle shed in August. 47 hectares of land at Niljepada were given by the Thane collector to MMRDA for the depot. The land in Thane is unclaimed, and district collector Ashok Shingare gave the order to deliver it to MMRDA as an Occupant Class-II.
