The 6E network has added Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, as its 27th international and 105th overall destination. Beginning on August 5, 2023, the airline is offering daily nonstop flights between Mumbai, India’s financial capital, and Nairobi, Kenya’s largest city. This new route signifies IndiGo’s entry into the African continent and offers numerous advantages to both business and leisure travellers. It is an important step in IndiGo’s international expansion strategy, as it strengthens strategic ties, trade, and travel routes between the two countries, thereby promoting economic development.
IndiGo’s Head of Global Sales, Vinay Malhotra, remarked, “We are delighted to announce the commencement of direct flights between Mumbai and Nairobi, a significant step towards strengthening bilateral ties between India and Kenya. As India becomes Kenya’s third-largest trading partner and investment levels rise, this new air route will also strengthen our economic connections. Kenya is our first destination in Sub-Saharan Africa; it consists of Savannah, Lakelands, and mountainous highlands. From Nairobi, the capital, safaris can visit Maasai Mara as well as multiple other National Parks & Wildlife Reserves, providing travellers with a wide variety of options. We remain committed to delivering on-time, affordable, courteous, and hassle-free travel experiences to our valued customers utilising our expanding network.”
A.g. CEO of the Kenya Tourism Board, John Chirchir, stated, “Magical Kenya is thrilled with IndiGo’s introduction of direct flights from Mumbai to Nairobi, Kenya, beginning in August 2023. This is a major milestone in our efforts to increase the number of visitors from India, the largest market in Asia. This direct access to Nairobi, the capital of Kenya and a regional business and travel centre, will provide leisure tourists, business visitors, and investors with a seamless connection to the destination, in addition to our national airline, Kenya Airways. We have formed a collaborative effort with the objective of enhancing Kenya’s reputation as the premier travel destination for Indian tourists seeking diverse experiences such as wildlife safaris, beach getaways, culinary delights, thrilling adventures, productive business meetings, and memorable occasions such as weddings and honeymoons. Through our joint marketing and sales campaigns, we hope to enhance Kenya’s allure and entice more Indian tourists to discover its marvels.
Enhanced accessibility will benefit business travellers and increase tourism, cultural exchanges, and cross-disciplinary collaboration. It signifies a significant turning point in India-Kenya relations and demonstrates a shared commitment to fostering mutually beneficial partnerships for growth and development.
