India continues to be Sri Lanka’s leading source market for tourists. According to information provided by the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority, the number of visitors from India has already surpassed 1 lakh 39,000 this year. This equates to a market share of more than 18% of the 7.67 lakh tourists who visited the island country. India led all other nations in July in terms of tourist arrivals with 23,461.
Since December of last year, when air traffic began between Jaffna and Chennai, the communication between the two nations has strengthened.
