In collaboration with the engineering department and traffic police, the CCBSS has instructed the architect department to create a comprehensive plan for bus parking at specific locations close to well-known tourist destinations like Sukhna Lake, Bird Park and Rock Garden, and the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
The Union territory plans to install shuttle bus services at its tourist destinations in order to reduce traffic and enhance the experience of its guests. At the 14th meeting of the Chandigarh City Bus Service Society (CCBSS), which operates under the auspices of the Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU), a decision was made in this regard on Thursday.
Under the direction of Nitin Yadav, UT adviser and home secretary, the meeting was conducted.
The engineering division would be in charge of designating parking spots and putting up signage to direct guests. The group will also run a public education effort to let locals and visitors know about the updated parking arrangements.
CTU buses that run between the well-known tourist destinations and the neighborhood will run every five minutes, with a fixed minimum charge of ₹10 for a round-trip ticket.
On a trial basis, the shuttle bus service will first operate on weekends and holidays. The required modifications will be implemented following public comment.
Bus shelters for lines to form
In an effort to enhance the commuting experience, the group decided to install “Delhi Pattern Bus Queue Shelters” all across the city. The design of these shelters will prioritize information accessibility, safety, and passenger comfort.
These shelters have a number of important features, including CCTV cameras, passenger route maps, dustbins, solar panels, mobile charging stations, aesthetically pleasing artifacts, real-time bus information, emergency contact numbers, features that make them physically accessible to people, and installation and advertisement boards.
Nitin Yadav stated, “The installation of these cutting-edge, passenger-friendly shelters will improve the commuting experience for residents of Chandigarh.”
He continued by saying that the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has already received a proposal from the governing body to hire 100 electric buses (12 meters long) to replace the diesel buses at CCBSS Depot IV as part of the PM-eBus Sewa Scheme.
The delegates were told during the meeting that CTU and CCBSS had seen an increase in revenue. In the fiscal year 2023–24, CCBSS saw a ₹3.14 gain in revenue over the previous year, 2022–2023.
CTU had a ₹8.93 crore rise in revenue over the previous year, even after 20 buses were removed from the fleet.
