Since the government has ordered airlines to reduce frequency by a fourth throughout the G20 meeting next month due to parking restrictions at Delhi airport, more than a thousand commercial flights may be postponed or cancelled. Airlines have also been instructed to move some of their parked aircraft at Delhi to other airports concurrently. Beginning on September 9, the Summit will take place. Airline executives have issued a warning that there could be network-wide effects, which could result in flight cancellations given that Delhi is India’s main airport. Travel agents have urged people to change their plans for those days due to crowded hotels and traffic closures that the Delhi police have declared. The G20 summit will be place in Delhi on September 9 and 10 and will feature the participation of the heads of state of roughly 30 nations and major international organizations.
In addition to US President Joe Biden, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, and Chinese Premier Xi Jinping, more than 50 special planes will travel into Delhi for the conference. The largest airport in India, Delhi, has about 220 parking spaces, however they are all fully utilized because of the increase in air travel. The situation is becoming worse because 50 airplanes are stuck at the airport because of engine problems and Go First’s insolvency. According to sources, the ministry of civil aviation informed airline executives that the special aircraft, which will transport heads of state and officials from the participating countries, could not find sufficient parking spaces at Delhi Airport.
Given that the majority of delegates will arrive and depart during these times, flights must be rescheduled from 12 p.m. on September 8 to 12 a.m. and from 6 p.m. on September 10 to 12 a.m. on September 9.
