  • Chennai and Bengaluru now have operating Korea Visa Application Centers

For the convenience of travelers in the area, the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Chennai, India, opened its new and roomy visa application centers in Chennai and Bengaluru on September 1, 2023.

With the opening of these cutting-edge South Korea visa application centers (KVACs), travelers from Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Pondicherry, and Tamil Nadu will be able to submit their applications with ease for all visa categories, including express visa applications, from Monday through Friday, 9AM to 1PM for individuals, 9AM to 12PM for travel agencies, and 10AM to 3PM for passport collection.

These KVACs are run with cooperation from VFS Global, the largest provider of outsourcing and technology services to governments and diplomatic missions worldwide. They also provide optional services for picky applicants.
Since 2011, the Embassy has been running KVACs in Kolkata and New Delhi.

As the two nations celebrate the 50th anniversary of their diplomatic ties, South Korea is actively pushing travel from India to the East Asian nation. Late in August, the Korean Tourism Department (KTD), which has its headquarters in Seoul, will hold a sizable roadshow in New Delhi to entice Indian visitors. Other significant Indian cities were also approached about hosting roadshows.

Up until 2019, Indian travel to South Korea has been growing quickly, but it has since started to fall because to Covid-19 and other causes. The Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) India office has introduced a unique K-incentive Scheme to increase sales of Korea travel packages for travel agencies in India as part of the ongoing marketing strategies for 2023 to improve tourism. Indian tourists are also being encouraged to visit regional tourism hotspots like Busan, Gangwon, and Jellanam-do provinces in addition to Seoul.

With a concentration on electronics and automobiles, approximately 300 Korean companies have specifically joined the market in Chennai. Korean IT-based businesses are nevertheless steadily expanding in Bengaluru. Operations of KVACs in these places will help to improve collaborative visits as business between South Korea and India prospers.
