While the City Beautiful was celebrating tourism week, HT had an in-person engagement with visitors to get a feel for the atmosphere. Chandigarh, a city that is known for its distinctive modern architecture and landmarks like the Capitol Complex and Rock Garden, received mixed reviews.

Others emphasized that the UT administration should be more proactive in promoting tourism, while some emphasized the need to prioritize fundamentals like better maintaining the landmarks.

Fatehabad-based Preeti, 25, a first-time tourist to Chandigarh, claimed that the city needed to update the information on its website regarding the Capitol Complex and the cleanliness of restrooms.

Seema Bamb, a 39-year-old native of Pune, highlighted her concern about the lack of suitable signage near tourist attractions and argued in favor of battery-operated cars for elderly people wherever long walks were necessary.

A 73-year-old British tourist named Brenda Hennessey complimented the city’s architecture and singled out the Capitol Complex and Rock Garden as particular highlights.

Rohit Gupta, director of tourism at UT, added: “We are working to upgrade infrastructure, such as signages, establish operational help desks at the airport and railway station, and ensure amenities like restrooms and cleanliness.”

Between September 22 and September 27, the UT hosted a variety of events to commemorate tourism week. The Government Museum and Art Gallery, Rock Garden, Sukhna Lake, Bird Park, and the Capitol Complex in Sector 1 are among of the city’s most popular tourist attractions.
