Nonstop, year-round service between Toronto and Yellowknife has been announced by Air Canada for December. The new service, which runs three times a week, will make it easier for people in eastern Canada to get to the capital of the Northwest Territories. From Yellowknife, customers can easily transfer to Canadian North, an interline partner of Air Canada.
Beginning during the peak season for viewing the Northern Lights, Air Canada is happy to make it easier for customers to go to Yellowknife and beyond. But this new route will also benefit business travellers and the economy, as it would connect Yellowknife directly to Canada’s financial hub. Additionally, customers can continue their journey from Yellowknife on Air Canada’s interline partner, Canadian North. This was announced by Air Canada’s Executive Vice President, Revenue and Network Planning, Mark Galardo.
With today’s news, the Northwest Territories will have far more aviation alternatives than ever before. The debut of this direct route between Yellowknife and Toronto improves accessibility to Canada’s financial centre and boosts tourism in both cities. Minister for Industry, Tourism, and Investment in the Northwest Territories Caroline Wawzonek expressed optimism about the positive impact the flights will have in attracting more visitors, businesses, and organisations to the territory.
The North and its people rely heavily on air travel to maintain connections with the rest of Canada and the rest of the world. I’m glad that Air Canada is resuming its nonstop service between Yellowknife and Toronto as air travel continues to recover to pre-pandemic levels. Minister for Infrastructure for the Northwest Territories Diane Archie has said that as a result of YZF, more people will be able to travel to and from the Northwest Territories for both business and pleasure.
As of December 2023, Air Canada will commence nonstop, year-round service from Toronto to Yellowknife, much to the delight of NWT Tourism. The new service from Air Canada will improve transport options between the eastern provinces and the Northwest Territories. Additionally, this trip will be planned to allow for easy connections for foreign tourists to Yellowknife via Toronto, and travellers can continue on to other NWT sites by taking advantage of the interline cooperation with Canadian North. Donna Lee Demarcke, CEO of NWT Tourism, expressed gratitude to Air Canada for their efforts to expand air service to the territory. “We appreciate Air Canada’s support towards the NWT tourism industry, our businesses, and our residents,” she said.
Starting on December 1, 2023, flights using Canadian-built Airbus A220 aircraft will connect Toronto and Yellowknife. There will be 137 seats available between the Business and Economy sections, and passengers may enjoy free Wi-Fi and personal TV screens loaded with hundreds of hours of content and live TV from the comfort of their seats. Customers can collect and redeem Aeroplan points, and those who qualify can take advantage of perks like priority boarding, baggage claim, and entry to the Maple Leaf Lounge in Toronto.
This new service will supplement Air Canada’s already frequent flights between Yellowknife and Vancouver (twice daily) and Yellowknife and Edmonton (daily). Customers who need to make a connection in Yellowknife and continue their journey with Canadian North can take advantage of a through-checked ticket and luggage transfer on both airlines thanks to a bilateral interline agreement between Air Canada and Canadian North. Cambridge Bay, Fort Simpson, Hay River, Gjoa Haven, Taoloyoak, and Inuvik are just few of the places you can travel to with Canadian North. Aeroplan points can be earned and used by Canadian North customers.
