LUCKNOW After a five-year hiatus, Lucknow Mahotsav, the festival honoring the art and culture of the state capital, will return. According to organisers, the cultural festival will be held from November 25 to December 5 in its previous location, the Kanshiram Smriti Upvan in Ashiana.

The 10-day festival will feature performances by local, foreign, and Bollywood artists, food stalls, mushairas, kavi sammelans, Yuva Mahotsav, and other competitions in addition to the new activity of boating.

According to Mukesh Meshram, principal secretary for tourism, “If everything goes according to plan, the department of tourism will fund the Mahotsav and the district administration will organize it from November 25 to December 5 at the Kanshi Ram Smriti Upvan in Ashiana.”

Folk melodies from Braj, Awadhi, and Bundeli will be the other main draws, according to tourism department officials. Each Mahotsav ticket will cost 20 rupees, and children would be admitted free.

Visitors will also be drawn to local and Mughlai cuisine, the ekka-tonga race, vintage vehicle rallies, kabaddi, kite-flying, wrestling, theatre competitions, as well as Lucknow’s traditional crafts like chikankari, zardozi, and silver foil work, according to officials.

“Lucknow Mahotsav has earned a spot on the nation’s cultural calendar…We missed it after five years without it being held. Sarvesh Asthana, a renowned poet from Lucknow, expressed his happiness that the event was making a comeback.

“Any artist would love to perform on the stage of Lucknow Mahotsav, which is on par with any other cultural event of the country,” Dastango Himanshu Bajpai said. The Mahotsav is a symbol of Lucknow’s distinctive culture.

The India Handicraft Festival has been organized by Vinod Kumar Singh, president of Pragati Environment Protection Trust, for the past two years. He wrote to the tourism department to request the use of Kanshiram Smriti Upvan from November 30 to December 14. Kalyan Singh, the deputy director of the tourist division, commented on this, stating that it is suggested to hold the Lucknow Mahotsav at the location in Ashiana from November 25 to December 5.
