Because Go First hasn’t paid its employees in three months, the delay in resurrecting the company has been detrimental. Sources claim that since May 2023, the airline has not paid its employees, and as the restoration process drags on, these workers are accepting positions with rival airlines.
Sources claim that 500 of the 600 Go First pilots left the airline and joined Air India and IndiGo, two carriers that have been rapidly expanding their operations, leaving Go First with only 100 pilots at the moment.
The airline has lost around 1,200 workers overall since July, including cabin personnel and engineers for aircraft maintenance. On July 10, when it requested expressions of interest from prospective buyers, it had 4,200 employees. Currently, there are just a little bit more than 3,000 employees.
The downward trend isn’t projected to end here; by mid-September, the number of employees is predicted to reach 2,400 or 2,500 as 500 to 600 additional workers will have left and will be giving notice.
The uncertainty around when the airline will restart operations, besides from pay, is another factor contributing to employee annoyance.
