The Bodh Gaya Temple (Mahabodhi Temple), a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the most significant Buddhist pilgrimage site, has established an advisory board.

Representatives from Buddhist nations, the Central government, the Bihar Legislative Assembly, and several luminaries make up the newly formed advisory board.

Ambassadors from Buddhist nations in India who are a part of the newly established advisory board include Bhutan, Thailand, Myanmar, Japan, Cambodia, Mongolia, South Korea, Vietnam, Laos, and the high commissioner of Sri Lanka, according to the most recent notification by the home department (special branch) of the state government.

“Buddhist members from India, who are part of the board, include the representative of the Dalai Lama, secretaries (department of ecclesiastical affairs), government of Sikkim/Arunachal Pradesh/Ladakh, general secretary (Mahabodhi Society of India, Kolkata), Sri Nangzey Dorjee, IAS (Retd.) present member secretary, Bodhgaya Temple Management Committee, Bodhgaya,” says the notification.

Other members of the board include the joint secretary of the Union Ministry of External Affairs, the secretary of the Union Ministry of Tourism, the secretary of the Bihar government’s tourism department, the secretary of the Bihar government’s department of art, culture, and youth, the director general of the Archaeological Survey of India, a member of parliament from Gaya, a member of the Legislative Assembly from Bodhgaya, the commissioner of the Magadh division, a member of the Bo

The advisory board’s primary responsibility is to provide guidance to the Bodh Gaya temple management committee on all issues pertaining to the management and security of the Mahabodhi Temple Complex. The Bodh Gaya Temple Management Committee (BTMC) is in charge of maintaining and running the complex.

The BTMC keeps an eye on the temple on a daily basis. The BTMC also consults the temple’s advisory board when making decisions about the preservation, upkeep, and protection of the temple complex and its surroundings.
