New rankings reveal that one North Carolina vacation spot may be your best chance if you’re hoping to unwind this summer.
According to U.S. News & World Report, the Outer Banks barrier islands are the tenth best place to visit for cheap fun in the sun throughout the summer.
The website claims that it compiled the list by taking into account the recommendations of its users for summer vacation spots across the country. Editors were consulted and their ratings of U.S. locations spanning “sights, culture, people, food, family, nightlife, adventure, romance, value, and accessibility” were published in March and revised in May 9.
The only region of North Carolina to place highly in the rankings was the Outer Banks, which can be found off the coast. They were praised for providing a comfortable yet entertaining setting.
“A quintessential family vacation spot, the Outer Banks fills to the brim in summer with beachgoers looking to relax,” U.S. News stated. Fishing, windsurfing, boogie boarding, and kite adventures are just some of the kid- and teen-friendly pursuits available in this North Carolina resort.
Lighthouses and other historic locations on the Outer Banks, where the Wright brothers made their historic first flight in the early 1900s, were also included in the report. The beaches were also highlighted as positive features, with visitors praising them for being “wide and clean.”
The Outer Banks quickly became well-known as one of the most budget-friendly vacation spots in the United States during spring break. Unfortunately, this year’s seasonal vacation list did not include the barrier islands.
According to McClatchy News, only Asheville, a tourist town in the North Carolina mountains, was named one of USA Today’s 10Best for outstanding summer travel locations.
U.S. News & World Report ranked Glacier National Park in Montana as the best summer vacation destination in the United States. To complete the top five, we have:
Our Nation’s Park, Yellowstone
Park, National, Grand Canyon
Location: San Diego
Park of the Grand Tetons
One other well-known North Carolina attraction was ranked lower. The Great Smoky Mountains National Park, which straddles the border between North Carolina and Tennessee, came in at number fifteen.
