India and France have reached a historic agreement to implement the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) in the European country. This occurs during the two-day visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Paris.
From the top of the Eiffel Tower, Modi announced that soon, visitors from India will be able to pay in rupees using UPI. At the La Seine Musicale, a performing arts facility on an island in the River Seine, he was speaking to the Indian community.
“An agreement has been signed in France for the usage of India’s UPI…The Eiffel Tower will serve as the starting point, and Indian tourists will now be able to pay there using UPI and Rupees, according to PM Modi.
In 2022, the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), which provides UPI services, inked an MoU with Lyra, France’s safe online payment platform.
Additionally, Modi reaffirmed France’s decision to provide master’s degree students in France long-term visas valid for five years.
