Union Minister Nitin Gadkari voiced confidence on Friday that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, India will overtake the United States as the largest vehicle market in the next five years.

In Vapi, Gujarat’s Valsad district, the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways gave a speech to a crowd after officially opening the campus of the Rajju Shroff ROFEL University.

“The Indian vehicle business is currently worth Rs 7.5 lakh crore. According to Gadkari, the sector has so far generated 4.5 crore jobs and pays the most Goods and Services Tax (GST) to the federal and state governments.

India previously ranked fourth in the world’s automotive market, after the US, China, and Japan, but it recently overcame Japan to take the third spot, the expert claimed.

The minister added, “And I am convinced that within five years, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, we would be No. 1 and the industry will be worth Rs 15 lakh crore.

He expressed optimism that India can eventually overtake the United States as the world’s largest economy due to the skilled labour force and raw materials that are present in the nation.

“We want India to become a superpower in the economy. Future-ready technologies will be required to do it. India has the most engineering talent and the necessary raw materials. India can become the world’s leading economy, he asserted.

“Every year, India imports fossil fuels worth Rs 16 lakh crore. Future fuels include ammonia and green hydrogen. Our goal is to turn India into an energy exporter, the minister declared.

Gadkari claimed to have examined the expansive Delhi-Mumbai Motorway project, which runs through Gujarat, to address some “problems”.

Once the motorway is finished, he claimed, people will be able to drive in about 12 hours from Delhi to Nariman Point in Mumbai.
