From May 23, low-cost airline IndiGo will provide a direct flight linking both tourist spots between Goa and Dehradun (Uttarakhand). IndiGo will run the service between Jolly Grant Airport (Dehradun) in Uttarakhand and Manohar International Airport (Mopa) in Goa. According to a representative of the Goa tourism department, the first direct flight is scheduled for Rohan Khaunte, the minister of tourism for Goa, to board on May 23.
The official stated that the new direct flight route will offer tourists an easy and simple option to travel between Goa and Uttarakhand and discover the distinctive cultural and natural features of both states.
“I am delighted about the beginning of direct flights between Goa and Uttarakhand,” Khaunte said in a statement to the media issued today. “This will help in promoting spiritual tourism in Goa under the vision of Dakshin Kashi.”
He claimed that tourists will now have easy access to numerous of Goa’s historically significant sites.
“In a similar vein, this will also help Goan tourists who travel to Uttarakhand to enjoy the state’s breathtaking natural beauty. The introduction of this new direct route would improve connection between the two states and give travellers more possibilities to experience the rich cultural history, stunning natural surroundings, and adventure tourism activities that both Goa and Uttarakhand have to offer, the official continued.
According to Khaunte, the partnership supports the ‘Dekho Apna Desh’ programme, which Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced as a call to action for people to favour domestic travel over overseas excursions.
“The initiative aims to encourage people to witness and experience the rich heritage and vivid culture of India,” he continued.
In contrast to the 1.9 crore domestic tourists that visited Uttarakhand in 2021, Goa saw 33 lakh domestic visitors in 2022, according to the India Tourism Statistics 2022.
