Due to poor weather, the Amarnath Yatra was postponed for the second day in a row on Saturday, according to officials, as rain lashed majority of Kashmir.
Due to the bad weather, the yatra is still suspended for the second day on the Pahalgam and Baltal routes. They declared that no pilgrim was to approach the sacred cave sanctuary this morning.
According to the officials, the shutdown of the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway prevented new groups of pilgrims from departing Jammu to begin their yatra.
Due to rain-induced landslides, the highway was shut.
After heavy rains hit many areas of Kashmir yesterday (Friday), the yatra was put on hold along both routes.
The trip had to be suspended due to torrential rains that began early on Friday, and the pilgrims were stopped in the Baltal and Nunwan base camps.
The yatra track’s Baltal route was also affected by a landslip as a result of the region’s intense rain. There were no reports of any fatalities, though. The officials announced that the yatra will resume whenever the weather improves.
At the sacred cave shrine, almost 80,000 pilgrims have already made their obeisance there.
From the twin trails of Pahalgam in Anantnag district and Baltal in Ganderbal district, the 62-day annual pilgrimage to the 3,888-meter-high cave shrine in the south Kashmir Himalayas began on July 1. On August 31, the yatra is expected to come to an end.
