The Ambala airport has received administrative approval for 16 crore for a number of projects; initially, 3.76 crore will be used to build the terminal’s reception spaces.
The Haryana State Roads and Bridges Development Corporation (HSRDC) has awarded the tender for the building work, authorities said on Friday, with Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar scheduled to lay the foundation stone of the domestic airport at Ambala Cantonment on October 15.
According to Anil Dahiya, managing director of HSRDC, building at the terminal would start after the foundation-stone ceremony on October 15 and should be finished within six months.
“An administrative sanction for 16 crore worth of projects has been received. The terminal’s welcome sections will first be built by Zirakpur-based M/s Aggarwal Engineers and Contractors for a cost of 3.76 crore. Other tasks, like as parking and arrival and departure zones, will be completed later. Accordingly, tenders would be floated, Dahiya told HT.
The airport, or Civil Enclave as it is known, is being built under the Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS) – Udaan 3.0 of the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation. Flight operations will begin from the airport using an Indian Air Force (IAF) strip. From the terminal, buses will transport passengers to the aircraft. The airport is initially anticipated to offer flights to Varanasi and Srinagar.
Anil Vij, the home minister, toured the event site on Friday with help from the deputy commissioner Shaleen Dahiya, the IGP Sibash Kabiraj, SP Jashandeep Singh Randhawa, and representatives from several departments.
In addition to the CM, Dushyant Chautala, the deputy CM, as well as a number of MPs and MLAs, will attend the ceremony, according to Vij. A letter of invitation has also been given to VK Singh, the minister of state for civil aviation, and Jyotiraditya Madhavrao Scindia, the union minister of civil aviation.
Airport will boost growth and job opportunities: Vij
Speaking to reporters, Vij said that because of its advantageous position, the airport will serve travelers from Haryana, Western UP, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. Additionally, because the airport is located in the heart of Ambala City, it will offer easy access to the NH-44, the railway junction, and the bus stop.
“There is no question that an airport improves a city’s reputation and draws in investors. Businessmen will be able to go to Ambala every day from a number of the nation’s major cities thanks to the completion of this airport. This will strengthen previously established industries and create jobs, he continued.
worked on since 2018
The project at this location, which is around 50 kilometers from Mohali’s Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport, was approved in December 2018 but languished for several years mostly because of land-related concerns close to the strategically significant IAF base with Rafale aircraft.
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh approved 20 acres of defense property for the port in exchange for 133 crore, according to officials, on NH-444A (also known as the Ambala-Saha highway or Jagadhari Road) in the army’s dairy farms area. The state government deposited the money last month.
