Around 25 locations in Chandigarh lit up Ravana’s effigy, with Mandi Ground in Sector 46 housing the city’s tallest Ravana at 101 feet.
Tuesday’s Dussehra rituals in the trinity included a ferocious send-off for Meghnad, Kumbhkaran, and Ravana.
In Chandigarh, almost 25 different locations lit up Ravana’s effigy. At Mandi Ground in Sector 46, a 101-foot-tall Ravana was erected as the highest structure in the city. To give the impression that the demon king and his brothers were remorseful before their downfall, the effigies had fire sprinklers installed in the eyes and mouth.
The burning of the effigies was started by Parveer Ranjan, the director general of police (DGP) for Chandigarh, who was also the principal guest.
The DGP first honored the victims of the Anantnag assault. At the event, there was a poster honoring Colonel Manpreet Singh, Major Ashish Dhonack, and Deputy Superintendent Humayun Bhat.
Sector 34 and the famous Parade Ground in Sector 17 both saw large crowds of people. Arya Samaj Mandir in Sector 7, CPWD in Sector 7, sabji mandi in Ram Darbar, Subhash Nagar in Manimajra, RBI Colony in Sector 30, Shani Mandir in Manimajra, and Nanaksar Gurdwara in Sector 28 are just a few of the sites throughout the city where the fiery spectacle of effigy burning was witnessed in addition to the main locations.
Around 6.20 pm, the tallest Ravana in Panchkula, reaching a towering 171 feet tall, burst into flames at Shalimar Ground in Sector 5. The centerpiece of the festivities was the effigy, which was decorated with environmentally friendly firecrackers from Tamil Nadu.
Roads leading to the ground were crowded with traffic, and automobiles were parked in a serpentine line along the sides of the road that stretched for more than two kilometers. Although police were on hand to control the gathering, several people were left for nearly an hour in traffic that moved slowly.
The event’s principal visitors were mayor Kulbhushan Goyal, Gian Chand Gupta, and others. The Adarsh Ramlila Dramatic Club and Panchkula’s Mata Mansa Devi Charitable Trust (Dussehra committee) worked together to build the effigy, which cost about 18 lakh rupees.
Five locations in Mohali were used to commemorate Dusshera. The Dussehra committee hosted the major event at Sector 77, and deputy commissioner Aashika Jain served as the chief guest.
Along with the effigies of Ravana, Kumbhakaran, and Meghnad, an additional effigy was built to represent the eradication of drugs. The 80-foot-tall Ravana effigy in this location.
The committee’s general secretary, Anurag Aggarwal, stated that Phase 8’s Dussehra Ground was formerly where the holiday was observed. However, the venue was changed to the grounds of the YPS School since a mall was being built nearby. This year, the event was relocated to Sector 77 as a result of complaints by the Qaumi Insaaf Morcha.
Snarl-ups were seen on the highways in several parts of the town in the evening, meantime. Phases 7 and 8, Sector 70, Kumbhra Chowk, the Phase 7 traffic light, and Phases 9, 10, and 11 were all separated by lengthy lines of cars.
