  • No additional international flights this winter in Chandigarh - Starfish Travel Corporation

The winter timetable does not include any more overseas flights beyond the already scheduled trips to Sharjah and Dubai. The flight to Dubai departs every day, whereas the flight to Sharjah departs every other week. Additionally, this time around, no new domestic routes or destinations have been added. 33 domestic flights are currently leaving from the airport.

The Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport started operating 24 hours a day in April 2019, but the administration hasn’t added any additional international flights to the winter schedule, which will take effect on October 29.

In the proposal for the winter schedule, neither more domestic flights nor new international flights have been proposed, according to Rakesh Ranjan Sahay, CEO of the Chandigarh International Airport. They have just advised a change in scheduling because of the wintertime. On October 27, the winter schedule will be approved, and it will go into effect on October 29.

In October of this year, the authorities intended to start a direct trip to London, and multiple meetings with the British High Commission were scheduled for this reason. The direct flight was scheduled to land at Birmingham Airport or Heathrow Airport in London, both of which are about 170 kilometers from the capital of the United Kingdom.

Another senior executive reported that the trip is now anticipated to start this summer and that ticket testing have already been carried out by the airlines.

More foreign flights from Chandigarh have long been a significant demand of businessmen, according to Anurag Aggarwal, a businessman and past president of the Mohali Industries Association. They are unable to comprehend the cause of the delay, though. The purpose of the international airport is to advance trade, which can only be done by connecting to many regions of the world and having a strong domestic network.

The Chandigarh International Airport was opened by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 11, 2015.

Using an advanced landing system for the first time is in the box.

At Chandigarh International Airport last year, the Air Force authorities installed the CAT-2 instrument landing system (ILS). This much-needed enhanced instrument landing system will be used for the first time this winter, allowing airplanes to land even with visibility as low as 50 meters.

An ILS, or instrument landing system, is a radio navigation system that gives pilots short-range guidance for landing in low visibility. Currently, a safe airport landing needs an aircraft to have visibility of at least 350 meters.

The Chandigarh airport’s main runway has two sides: runway 29 and runway 11, both of which are currently outfitted with CAT-11.
