According to a report by Mint, Air India is soon anticipated to construct a second hub in South India as it seeks to improve both domestic and international operations. The sole center is right now in New Delhi.

The new center would largely concentrate on enhancing its operations in Mumbai and may be constructed in either Bengaluru or Hyderabad. According to Mint, this hub will be used by Air India and Air India Express for both domestic and international flights.

Hubs are used by airlines as hubs where passengers are transferred to their final destinations. The hub serves as the center of an airline’s primary activities. For instance, Cathay Pacific, British Airways, and Emirates all have hubs in Hong Kong, London, and Dubai respectively.

Air India hopes to increase its market share in airports other than New Delhi, particularly smaller ones, with the establishment of this new hub.

In order to facilitate one-stop international connectivity via India to other foreign destinations, the Center has been encouraging airlines to open new aviation hubs. The Center claims that this will increase trade and investment within India as well.

According to Mint, Air India intends to increase its Air India Express service in Tier-II and Tier-III locations. Campbell Wilson, the airline’s chief executive, recently announced that the business intends to forge a low-cost foothold on domestic routes. This is in keeping with the overarching objective of rejuvenating the airline by modernizing its whole fleet by the end of 2025.
