Shobhan Chaudhuri, general manager of Northern Railway, discussed the ongoing farmers’ protest with news agency ANI and claimed that it has hampered train traffic. “So far, 150 passenger trains and over 90 postal express trains have been canceled. We are evaluating the circumstances,” he said to ANI.

In 20 locations around Punjab, including Faridkot, Samrala, Moga, Hoshiarpur, Gurdaspur, Jalandhar, Tarn Taran, Sangrur, Patiala, Ferozepur, Bathinda, and Amritsar, there is a commotion currently ongoing.

According to railway officials, the unrest caused several trains to be cancelled, the routes of many others to be changed, and some to be short-terminated. 91 trains in the Ferozepur division were canceled, 48 were short-terminated, 5 were short-originated, and 35 were diverted, according to railway officials. They also mentioned the impact on 14 cargo trains and 179 passenger trains.

The farmers also shut down the national highway connecting Chandigarh, Ambala, and Delhi on Friday for seven hours. Near Lalru in Punjab, a group of farmers with ties to the Bharti Kisan Union (Sidhupur) set up camp on the Chandigarh-Ambala-Delhi national highway and parked their tractors there as well. After seven hours, the blockage was lifted as promised by the district administration officials. The highway was shut on both sides during the day, according to a Punjab Police official, and traffic was redirected to alternate streets.

Several farmer organizations are taking part in the demonstration, including the Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee, Bharti Kisan Union (Krantikari), Bharti Kisan Union (Ekta Azaad), Azaad Kisan Committee, Doaba, Bharti Kisan Union (Behramke), Bharti Kisan Union (Shaheed Bhagat Singh), and the Bharti Kisan Union (Chottu Ram).
