Once completed, the road is anticipated to be a huge relief for Chandivali locals, who regularly battle horrendous traffic and must travel about 30 to 45 minutes to access JVLR. This time, the 90-foot road will be greatly shortened.
Mumbai: A day after Chandivali locals went on a hunger strike to demand the building of a 90-foot road connecting Chandivali to Jogeshwari Vikhroli Link Road (JVLR), the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) issued a request for proposals for the project.
The road would be constructed by the civic body’s central roads agency at a price of 27.78 crore, according to the tender announced by the deputy chief engineer for roads in the eastern suburbs. The proposed route would be 90 feet wide and 700 meters long.
The BMC Development Plan’s projected 90-foot road connects Andheri to Chandivali Farm Road and then to JVLR.
DP Road Number 9, a two-lane road that is in bad condition and highly encroached on both sides, is currently the fastest means for locals to go from Chandivali to JVLR.
Between Chandivali, Powai, and other eastern suburbs, this route provides a vital link. The road connecting Chandivali Farm Road to JVLR is the subject of the BMC’s most recent tender announcement.
Although the BMC set a 12-month deadline (excluding monsoons) for the road’s completion, a note in the tender warns that the procedure for handing over the proposed 90-foot road’s land or plot portion to the BMC is still in progress and could take some time.
The BMC had stated that the construction of the road could not begin until the land from the Shipping Corporation of India (SCI) was purchased.
Mandeep Singh Makkar, the founder of the Chandivali Citizens Welfare Association (CCWA), who oversaw the Sunday hunger strike, expressed his happiness that the BMC had finally released a request for proposals for the road’s development. Citizens have greatly benefitted from this. The construction of the road will provide the villagers of Chandivali a great deal of relief.
