Key representatives from UT and Punjab, including the Chandigarh deputy commissioner, Punjab advocate general Vinod Ghai, senior advocate Chetan Mittal, and other attorneys involved in the PIL, will attend the meeting, which will take place on August 23 at the UT Guest House.
Senior attorney and amicus curiae ML Sareen will be present, while additional solicitor general Satya Pal Jain will preside over the meeting.
After speaking with all parties, UT would provide date-by-date information regarding the project’s implementation on the next hearing date.
When a PIL regarding infrastructure issues at the airport was being heard again, the bench of chief judge RS Jha issued the directives.
The Sector 48 route to the airport is being planned as a parallel, quicker route by the Chandigarh administration. The new road will begin at the T-intersection of Purv Marg and Vikas Marg in Sector 48 (coming from Sector-43 ISBT and Tribune Chowk, respectively).
After passing through Mohali, the current distance from this crossroads to the airport is 11.5 kilometers. This will be cut down to about 3.5 kilometers using the shorter route, cutting the travel time from 25 minutes to 5 minutes.
The project requires the acquisition of 56 acres overall, of which 42 acres are located in Chandigarh and the remaining 14 acres are located in the Punjabi villages of Jagatpura and Khandala. The project will be funded by UT, although both parties will be responsible for paying for land acquisition in the areas under their control.
The administration of Mohali has eight weeks to remove any remaining illegal structures that are within 100 meters of the airport, according to the court.
There were 93 structures altogether, out of which 22 have been destroyed and 71 are still standing, according to the state’s advocate general Vinod Ghai.
